Introducing myself to Fiverr as a Minor

So as stated in the title I am below the age of eighteen, I am sixteen years old and I have an online business on Fiverr. This blog post is to share my experiences with the site and selling on it.

If you haven't heard of Fiverr, it is an online freelance business site where most of there offered “Gigs” sell for five dollars.

There are a large variety of Gigs on Fiverr including but not limited too, Beta Reading, Video Editing, Custom Art, Voice Acting, Song Writing, and other things of a similar nature.

I was introduced to Fiverr like most things, because of YouTube. There I saw someone create a song just by asking random sellers on the site to do different tasks and then added them all together with differing results.

It piqued my interest, so I looked into it, It allows anyone from the age of Thirteen up to sell, I made my Gig. And I became a Beta Reader, I had always had a fascination with reading and finding new authors, I was excited that I might be able to get paid for it!

It had been about a month before I got my first gig, a woman messaged me asking me a few leading questions about what I offered. I answered them all and did a sample edit for her for five dollars. That ended with me reading her entire manuscript and earning a tidy sum of sixty-four dollars.

Which let me tell you, is a lot coming from someone who has had no prior job other than chores around the house.

So after that job all went back to normal and I didn't hear anything for a few days, and then I got another job! This one had a rockier beginning, see I was my boss, people were paying me to do good work, I didn't know how to respond to not liking the work I was doing.

The work I read wasn't as good as the previous, It got better near the middle but I didn't handle it as well as I should have. The client still gave me a good review, but I felt awful.

It was a valuable lesson on how to treat the work and how to buckle down and always give constructive criticism that shows the good in what was written as well as the flaws.

After that, I got a message from Fiverr saying that I would need to verify my identity using either a Drivers License, ID card, or Passport. Well, I didn't have any of those things, my family can't afford to get me a car, so I don't have a license, I had never traveled far enough to require a passport, and I didn't know what they meant by an ID card! I was fuming, if they were going to allow minors to sell on Fiverr it is unreasonable to ask them for an ID!

Luckily my Dad knew I could get a State ID, and I went through that exhausting process, but I had finally gotten it! I entered it in and could continue selling. But that doesn't mean I wasn't still mad at the company, after that my Dad took me to the bank so that I could get a debit card and withdraw my Fiverr funds and that's how we get to today.

And we shall end with this, Fiverr is an amazing website for people who would like to work online. But it is also a flawed website, there is a lot that could and should be improved.

It is difficult to find work as a minor when you spend almost all your time at home and have no means of transportation other than your parents.

So if you live in the US and have the same options, I had or are eighteen or older than it is a great option, otherwise, you should probably try elsewhere.
